About Hiring A Private Reading Tutor For Someone With Dyslexia

As a homeschool parent or a tradition school parent you may have just started your research on the subject or maybe you’ve reached the point where you’re ready to hire a private tutor.  In any case, you may be asking yourself, “why a Barton Certified Master Level Tutor?”

A quick story.

Gabe came to me believing he could not learn to read. So in his young mind the only reason he could not read was he was not smart enough. He knew he and his mom had been working very hard for quite a while, but with little success. In the beginning Gabe was quiet and nervous, eyes down, and trying to be brave. His posture spoke volumes of the emotional weight he was carrying on his little shoulders.  But, slowing, little by little, over time, Gabe made progress with our time working together,  first learning sounds, then connecting them to letters,  and finally blending those sounds into words. As time past Gabe’s posture changed, it became more straight, chest out, and shoulders back. The weight and fear he had been carrying was lifting . I remember during one of our lessons Gabe looking up from his work with a big smile on his face, and saying, “I am reading!, I can learn to read!” As a tutor, I treasure those moments when my students begin believing, again, that they are smart and can learn to read.  At the same time,  I also start hearing from  parents that their child is trying to read street signs while in the car and labels while grocery shopping. Fast forward for Gabe, he is a confident reader, reading above his grade level and most of all he enjoys reading.
