Myth: Boys are affected in greater numbers than girls.
Fact: Boys are sent for testing more than girls, but research shows that Dyslexia effects just as many girls as boys. Why?
In the lower grades, 1st through 3rd grade, when boys struggle in school they get frustrated and will act out. Girls on the other hand, in those same grades, will become quite, put their heads down, so to speak and try to push through on their own, so they are not a bother. So girls tend to go unnoticed and untested much longer for dyslexia than boys.
Myth: Dyslexia is not common.
Fact: Dyslexia impacts approximately 20% of our population, it can ranges from mild to profound. Dyslexia is the number one reading disability in schools.
Myth: He is so smart he cannot have Dyslexia.
